The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation has announced it will expand the New Zealand Women’s Ice Hockey League, effective for the 2025 season.
The NZIHF will provide $40,000 of funding towards helping the league and its teams transition to a longer season in 2025. The season expansion will see teams go from 6 to 12 games a season, plus playoffs, in a full home and away round robin format.
NZIHF President, Andy Mills, said that this change was well worth the NZIHF’s financial investment in to the league – “expanding the NZWIHL is a pivotal step in growing women’s ice hockey in New Zealand. This investment reflects our commitment to providing players with more opportunities to develop their skills, compete at a higher level, and inspire the next generation of athletes”.
